Give Free Edn. to Poor Students : SSUM

Imphal, March 15 2016: Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) has urged the authorities of mission and private schools to provide free and compulsory education to at least five students belonging to BPL and needy families from the 2017 academic session.

In a statement, the SSUM said that they would inspect the Government schools with an aim to enhance the state of these schools.

With most of the Government schools in bad shape, many children belonging to poor families are deprived of proper education as their parents cannot afford to send them to private schools, the union said.

The union observed that the future of many children of the State will remain bleak if the present state of the Government schools is not rectified.

As such, SSUM would inspect the functioning and infrastructure and manpower inadequacies of Government schools during their visits to these schools, the union added.

It further said that although huge funds to develop Government schools are coming from the Centre, these funds are misappropriated most of the time by the authorities concerned at different levels.

Such irregularities on the part of the authority concerned are clear violations of Right to Education Act 2009 mentioned in Article 21 (A) of the Constitution, the union said.

As the union has been formed by the students who have personally experienced adversaries in getting education due to poverty, the union has resolved to stand against such irregularities and rights violations.

The union also urged the public and all concerned to extend support and co-operation to their endeavour.
